The source of the baskets and their makers is unknown, but early histories of the Allanstand shop often mention selling items produced by traditional basket makers in Madison County, North Carolina. The photograph was taken by noted Asheville photographer Herbert W. Pelton and was probably used in a promotional brochure or price list for the shop.
