DescriptionWalter Benjamin Stephen (1876-1961) came to North Carolina from Nebraska. He established the Pisgah Pottery in Arden, North Carolina, which was especially known for its turquoise glazes. This photograph was taken by Bernice Stevens at the Craftsman's Fair of the Southern Highlands in Gatlinburg, Tennessee in July 1949. Stephen was a frequent demonstrator at Southern Highland Handicraft Guild fairs.
