DescriptionThis cornhusk doll was made by May Ritchie Deschamps of Swannanoa, North Carolina, ca. late 1940s. The doll wears a green dress with a bow tied in the back. The doll has fingers and is carrying a piece of corn shuck (possibly representing a broom). The face is fading and is in fragile condition. Deschamps is part of the Ritchie family of cornhusk doll-makers, whose figures are characterized by several unique wrapping techniques that are not used in other cornhusk traditions.
