The people photographed with the house include Alma Brown and Homer who are also in the photograph on the lower right of this page. Also pictured is the woman in the picture in "Our Southern Highlanders" (1922 revised ed., p. 288) captioned "'She knows no other lot'" and in the earlier edition of "Our Southern Highlanders" ( p. 225) as "At thirty a mountain woman is apt to have a worn and faded look".
