Description	This watercolor drawdown and draft illustrate a weave pattern known as Chariot Wheel. To record a pattern, a weaver creates a draft and/or a drawdown. A draft looks much like a strip of musical notation; a drawdown is a visual grid that illustrates a single weaving block. Weaving drawdowns were made by Frances Louisa Goodrich (1856-1944), who recorded weaving patterns she collected in and around Asheville, North Carolina. Goodrich collected several versions of this popular pattern, which is sometimes called Double Chariot Wheel. This version, drawn on unlined paper and glued to fabric for strength, was given to Goodrich by Elmeda Walker. A second version, drawn on graph paper, was given to Goodrich by the Ledfords of Sevier County, Tennessee.
