boarding
institution
to a
day
school
, and

were
bused
to
Cherokee
High

Queen
Stamper
(1907-1987)
was
one
of
Cherokee's
best-known
basket
weavers
.
Born
in the
Soco
community
,
Lottie
Queen
first
learned
how to
make
white
oak
baskets
from her
mother
. She then
married
into a
family
that
taught
her how to
make
rivercane
baskets
. From
1937
until
1966
,
Stamper
taught
basketry
classes
in the
upper
grades
at the
Cherokee
Training
School
,
later
Cherokee
High
School
.
