Description	This photograph, taken by Vivienne Roberts, shows Lottie Stamper teaching a basketry class in 1950. In 1954 the Cherokee Training School was changed from a boarding institution to a day school, and students were bused to Cherokee High School. Students pictured, from left to right, include: Lois Rattler (Calonehuskie), Frances Bradley, Annie Queen, Lottie Stamper (standing), and Mary Jo Washington. Lottie Queen Stamper (1907-1987) was one of Cherokee's best-known basket weavers. Born in the Soco community, Lottie Queen first learned how to make white oak baskets from her mother. She then married into a family that taught her how to make rivercane baskets. From 1937 until 1966, Stamper taught basketry classes in the upper grades at the Cherokee Training School, later Cherokee High School.
