Description
The
reed
fits
into the
beater
bar
on a
loom
and
keeps
the
warp
evenly
spaced
.
It
is
also
moved
toward
the
weaver
to
pack
the
weft
thread
into
place
. This
handmade
reed
has
used
string
to
establish
the
distance
between
spaces
.
It
would
give
the
weaver
15
ends
per
inch
(EPI)
or
15
threads
per
inch
. This
example
likely
dates
between
1920
and
1950
; the
name
of its
creator
is
unknown
.
