Description	This photograph by Vivienne Roberts shows the original Museum of the Cherokee Indian in the 1950s. That facility was opened in 1948 but burned in the early 1970s. The Museum re-located to its present location in 1976. The mission of the Museum of the Cherokee is "to preserve the history, culture, and stories of the Cherokee." The first museum collected and showcased many historic pieces of Cherokee art and craft work, some of which was unfortunately lost when it burned.
