Viner
(ca
.
1891-1978)
and her
son
.
Viner
was
born
in
Louisiana
and
came
to
Appalachia
as a
teacher
at the
Pine
Mountain
Settlement
School
in
Kentucky
. She
later
moved
to
Saluda
,
North
Carolina
,
where
she had a
weaving
studio
. Her
husband
,
Scrope
Viner
, and her
son
were
both
a
part
of the
weaving
business
. In the
photograph
her
son
is
helping
her
remove
dyed
fiber
from the
dye-pot
at the
1948
Craftsman's
Fair
of the
Southern
Highlands
in
Gatlinburg
,
Tennessee
.
