Description	This is a mountain woman figure or doll made in the early 1940s by William Perry Smith (1904-1965), of Buncombe County, North Carolina. The doll features a simple face carved from white pine and hand-sewn clothes. Smith, commonly known as Willie Smith, lost both legs in a train accident and was able to support his family of five with the earnings he made from carving dolls and chickens.
