Description	This mounted black and white photograph depicts John Hall carving a mule on his front porch, circa 1930s. John Hall was a member of the woodcarving cooperative founded at the John C. Campbell Folk School which later became known as the Brasstown Carvers. Hall was most known for what he called his "mad mules." John Hall also carved the figures from the nativity scenes known as "crèches" with wise men as a specialty. The Hall family is legendary for the quality of their woodcarvings. "John Hall's Mules Are Famous" was written on the back of this photograph.
