Description	This woodworker's tool chest belonged to carpenter Jesse Bryson Stalcup (1860-1931). It is believed to be custom made by Stalcup. The chest contains a variety of woodworking tools typically used by craftsmen in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. There are metal carrying handles on the sides and the lid is lockable. The top drawer is removable while the second drawer slides front to back for access to the lowest level. Stalcup grew up as a skilled carpenter in Swain County, N.C. and had later careers as a carpenter, millwright and Baptist preacher in Waynesville, N.C., Hiwassee, Ga., and Macon County, N.C. He helped design and build many Macon County churches including Holly Springs Baptist and Mount Zion Methodist.
