Although
the
origin
of this
particular
quilt
is
unknown
, this "
Tulip
"
pattern
quilt
exhibits
strong
characteristics
of
mid-19th
century
appliqué
quilts
from
North
Carolina
in the
pattern
blocks
, the
colors
, and the
triple
strip
borders
set
with
small
pieced
blocks
at the
intersections
. The
quilt
is
hand
pieced
and
quilted
in a
Rope
and
Ocean
Wave
pattern
using
white
thread
.
Evidence
of
cotton
batting
is
notable
through
frayed
areas
in
several
of the
pattern
blocks
.
