Description	This postcard, captioned 'Looking East, Dillsboro, N.C.,' was taken from a hill overlooking the center of the town. By the time this postcard was mailed, with a July 20, 1908, postmark on the reverse, the town of Dillsboro had emerged as a vital commercial center along the Murphy Branch of the Southern Railway. It was the home base for regional mining and lumbering operations. One major enterprise headquartered in the town was the Harris Clay Company. While the actual mine was located about six miles distant near the town of Webster, N.C., the company had the processed kaolin transported by tram to Dillsboro, which was the closest rail station.
