Yale

Vance
in
1936

Yale
and
Vance
began
their
craft
teaching
in
Asheville
,
North
Carolina
with the
Biltmore
Estate
Industries
in
1901
, and their
move
to
Tryon
,
N.C
. in
1915
where
they
established
the
Tryon
Toy-Makers
and
Wood-Carvers
. Here they
instructed
young
people
in
woodworking
and
used
the
sales
of
toys
and
other
decorative
pieces
to
support
the
business
for
over
twenty
years
. The
business
was
transferred
to
new
owners
in
1936
when
Yale
and
Vance
began
a
new
enterprise
with the
Tryon
Craft
School
.
